Crawling Bug Control

Ants
Ants

Challenges and Solutions

While ants are small, they can turn into a big problem fast. They’re difficult to control, even with the right equipment, because they infest by the thousands, can get into pretty much any crack, and attack by biting, stinging and injecting venom. Three gallons of professional product is needed to effectively manage ant nests, and all solutions are temporary (1 to 3 months).

The most common ants attacking homes in Georgia include carpenter ants, which chew wood and can do damage very similar to termites, and fire ants, which are very aggressive and whose bites can cause allergic reactions.

Bedbugs
Bedbugs

Challenges and Solutions

Blood-sucking bedbugs have been infesting human habitats since caveman days and came into the United States with the first explorers. For generations we’ve been saying, “Good night. Sleep tight. Don’t let the bedbugs bite!” for good reason: bedbugs are a common, and unsolved, problem.

Bedbugs thrive on humans and other animals and usually feed throughout the night when we’re unsuspecting. These nasty insects inject a salivary secretion into a wound to thwart coagulation and increase blood flow, causing skin to itch and swell. Scratching can cause sores and infections. While bedbugs don’t necessarily transmit any human pathogens, they cause emotional stress.

Bees
Bees

Challenges and Solutions

While bees, wasps and hornets are beneficial insects, they can sting and threaten our enjoyment of activities, especially when outdoors. These insects actually infest outdoor spaces and buildings differently, and Global Pest Management knows the effective methods to remove hives and nests, minimize conditions conducive to infestations and control their entryways to reduce their numbers and your stress.

Mosquitos
Mosquitos

Challenges and Solutions

Mosquitoes are some of the most dangerous insects since they can quickly spread diseases, like Zika Virus (which can cause birth defects), West Nile Virus and malaria, across large areas. Mosquito control and management around your home and business are critical to caring for your family and employees. You can help control the mosquito population by being aware of and removing stagnant water, the breeding ground for more mosquitoes. If you have a pond, install a pump, waterfall or foundation to keep the water flowing.

Global Pest Management uses many environmentally friendly methods to control mosquitoes including traps, bug lights, the application of mosquito control I.G.R.s to breeding areas, and natural mosquito-repelling plants. Planting citronella, lemon thyme, catnip and rosemary around your doors and favorite spots in your yard can help supplement professional mosquito control. Sometimes we’ll recommend mosquito foggers or misting systems, which heat low levels of insecticide and fog your yard to kill mosquitoes instantly.

Spiders
Spiders

Challenges and Solutions

Exterminating spiders can be challenging when there are a lot of them. Spiders reproduce rapidly – in fact, one female black widow spider can have up to 7,000 babies – so it’s critical to resolve a spider infestation quickly.

The best way to attack spiders, which are extremely prevalent in Georgia, is to eliminate their food source: insects. We recommend a dual and ongoing approach of chemical and mechanical methods to get the pest population under control. For pesticides to work, pests must walk across the treated surface, groom themselves and ingest the particles. While spiders rarely leave their web and don’t groom, insects do. Pesticides last for approximately 30 days on the inside and approximately 90 days outside, so a regular pest control program will minimize your overall pest populations, and the domino effect will creep up the food chain from insects to spiders.

Complementing the chemicals, you should be sure to do routine maintenance for general crawling insects, since their demise will decrease the spider population. When insects die, spiders, who are not insects but belong to the class Arachnida, will either die from lack of food or relocate to other areas with a more abundant food supply. You should also decrease spider harborage areas and nesting sites like wood and rock piles, lumber stacks, brush, high grass and weeds, and dormant manmade items (e.g., abandoned car, spare tires, junk pile). It’s important to frequently clean and relocate stored items in basements, storage areas and garages as well as vacuum spiders and webs from behind furniture and in ceiling corners to disturb their habitats and reduce their presence. Installing weather stripping and thresholds at the bottoms of doors and around windowsills also will help to prevent spiders from entering.

Among the most common spiders in Georgia are the black widow and brown recluse, which are two of the most dangerous and medically significant. Agile, they can inhabit many places, including hard-to-reach spots. Global Pest Management can quickly identify the type of spider and how many there are to initiate a strategy to remove them efficiently and prepare your property so they are unlikely to return.

Termites and Other Wood Destroying Pest Control

Termites
Termites

Challenges and Solutions

Wood-destroying termites are estimated to cause $5 billion in property damage each year. In Georgia, Eastern and Formosan subterranean termites are extremely destructive because they tunnel their way into wooden structures, burrowing for food. Termites share an insatiable appetite for wood and other materials that contain cellulose, and will eat until nothing is left but a shell.

You’ll know you have a termite problem not by seeing the termites themselves but by seeing what they leave behind:

  • Piles of small, delicate wings
  • Mud tubes termites build for above-ground travel
  • Damaged or hollow-sounding wood
  • Pinholes in drywall and wallpaper

And sometimes you will have termites without any signs, so it is important to get your house inspected, especially if you’re going to sell it. Global Pest Management can inspect your home and provide a termite inspection letter.

Crawl Space Encapsulation
Crawl Space Encapsulation

Challenges and Solutions

Crawl spaces, which are dank and dark, are natural breeding grounds for termites, wood decaying fungus and mold.

Global Pest Management encapsulates the space with a polyurethane barrier to make it cleaner and drier, reducing the ability for mold, wood decaying fungus and termites to inhabit and do havoc to the space and beyond. The enclosure even serves as a barrier to radon.
